UFC President, Dana White has tonight confirmed that the winner of the Nate Marquardt vs. Chael Sonnen fight this weekend at UFC 109 will receive the next shot at the middleweight title.
Speaking at the pre-fight press conference, Dana said:
“We always had it in mind. These guys are two of the top five in the world. Depending on how you look at it -- they deserve it. And Nate's been waiting a while for it.”
Sonnen has sneaked into what is now a number one contenders showdown following wins over Dan Miller and Yushin Okami, hardly championship level opposition. As for Marquardt, wins over Kampmann, Gouveia and Maia have put him on the cusp.
That's bullshit if Sonnen gets a title shot from this, I still think Maia would deserve one more than Sonnen at that point, especially since Maia beat Sonnen. Buuuuuut, I don't see Sonnen making it out of the 2nd round against Nate

Ya Mike exactly!!! It would be a crime if Sonnen somehow gets passed Nate...even tho I don't think it's gonna happen...Sonnen deserves to get hightlight-reel KO'd like Nate has done in his last 3 fights. Can't stand much more of Sonnen, he's really starting to irritate the shit out of me. |

I really dont know.... as much as I think Marquardt should win this one I cant look past the fact that Sonnen made Okami his bitch. Also Okami was definatley considered championship material up until that point. In fact most ranking systems had him in the top 5. Nate should win this one but I've seen weirder things happen. |

Sonnen is funny but I think he would win this. Good fight either way or it should be. I think they both will lose against Silva but I think both would be a good fight for him. Sonnen isnt no can he is a great fighter. |

You can't put Maia ahead of Sonnen if Sonnen beats Marquardt, If Sonnen beats him then thats 3 quality UFC wins in a row in fights he was a fairly big underdog in all 3. If he beats Marquardt I think he deserves it since the best Maia can do is win against Dan Miller and only have 1 win since his loss to Marquardt. |

Sonnen laid on Miller for 3 rounds in a horribly boring fight then he beat Okami who was rusty coming off a long lay off due to injuries...nothing real impressive. |

yeah dana on opie and anthony also talked about brock more. he said his doctors said brock was only at about 65% for the last year and half and that he is at 100% right now and will fight july 4th weekend if all goes as planned. dana also said how he dont believe in shit but whatever happened to brock to reverse this is gotta be a fuckn miracle. they have no explanation what so ever he went from needing a colostmy bag and never fighting again to 100% with no idea leaving doctors puzzled. |

The thing with Sonnen is if you let him, he will wear you down. The guy is so annoying with his constant pressure and take downs to apponents. Nate needs to keep his distance, keep circling and use his better striking. Dont think this fight is going to be as easy as everyone thinks. |

Nate will pound em out, Sonnen has technique but not the matching strength of Nate. And Nate is hungry. I Dont think (Nate) or anyone has an answer to Silva's game. Not yet..
